I have a first gen ipad with ios 5.1.1. I sign in to ibooks, itunes, and app store just fine. However, when I try to sign in to icloud, it asks for the recovery key assigned when I set up two step verification. I don't recall being assigned a key. Can I recieve this key a second time?

No. It is only generated once.

Do you still have the password and trusted device you also set up at that time?
