iMessage on MacBook only showing sent messages ...

I am really needing to find iMessages that i accidentally deleted off my iPhone. i've been signed into iMessage on my macbook for months, I have all the proper things ticked like using my phone number and email address to be contacted and text message forwarding and all that. The day I'm needing my messages recovered are either completely gone on my macbook or it only shows what I was sending and not what the person was sending back. I've tried restarting my computer and signing in and out of iCloud and iMessage on all of my devices and nothing is working. Please please hel[p
