Synchronise library?

So... this might be a bit of a difficult problem to describe and to fix, but I will try to explain the issue as best and full as possible.

So, background info:

- Whenever I have new music, I always place them in the 'Music' folder and when in iTunes, I go to 'File' and 'Add folder to library' and select 'Music'. This way, all the songs I've placed in the folder 'Music' in the mean time are added to the library. If anyone has a better method of having iTunes synchronise with the folder, it's welcome.

- Once, a few years ago, I think I made a mistake by messing about in the settings (I believe I went to 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Advanced' ... and ended up having iTunes copying all the files to a folder 'iTunes Music'). But I didn't notice right away, much later. When I had, it was already too late, I was using files from my 'Music' folder and files from 'iTunes Music' folder. Because it was such a big project of over 10.000 songs, I took effort to correct it manually by removing the copied/original ones, but never finished and there's still a great part in the 'iTunes Music' folder. I don't mind this now, would rather have all files in the 'Music' folder, but I've learned to live with it. If anyone knows a solution to this, also welcome haha.

Now comes the pickle...

I have a new computer with much more storage. I connected the old hard drive to my new pc and transferred all my files to the 'E:' drive here. I received the tip to not fill my 'C:' drive to keep the pc fast.
So, then all my music etc. is on the 'E:' drive (E:\Users\gino\Music) and (E:\Users\gino\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music). I used this article to try to connect al my music to the 'E:' drive... And for some reason, it connects to all the files from the 'iTunes Music' folder in the E: drive, but not the 'Music' folder in the E: drive.

How did I do it?

I am using the right library, so those steps are good. After that: 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Advanced' > the top field that says Location folder 'iTunes Music' is connected right (E:\Users\gino\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music). I believe that's why the files from the iT Music folder are connected, but I have no idea how I can link the remaining other songs to the files in the 'Music' folder. I could do it manually, but... it involves a lot of files to link... Is there a way to do the beforementioned automatically?

Kind regards,

Gino

(PS excuse me if I don't reply immediately, I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow but wanted to post this before I'm gone, efficiency)

Hi tt2,

Thanks for the reply. Excuse me for the late reply, like beforementioned, I was on holiday.

I feel like I don't fully comprehend the steps or I'm misinterpreting the information written in both threads. I'll describe what I've done per thread:

(1) About the first link. I noticed I still have the iTunes 8 or earlier lay-out.

a. "You can move the library files and the media together as a unit if the media folder is a direct subfolder of the library folder"

I don't have a library folder, only 'Previous iTunes Libraries'. My library is a loose file in the 'E:\Users\gino\Music\iTunes' folder. So I feel like this step doesn't apply to me?

b. I performed this step. It rearranged the files from 'E:\Users\gino\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music' to 'E:\Users\gino\Music\Music\' folder... But still doesn't link the files from 'E:\Users\gino\Music' folder

c. Consolidating files, I'm not sure if this is something I should do, since I fear this is the step I've taken a few years ago, which caused me to have two locations of music files (ergo double files). If this is not the case, I'll still perform this action.

d. I did get the prompt, but I don't know which library files I should connect to...

e etc. The further I go, the more confused I get as to where I should move folders to / which folder exactly it is I should rename etc.
Could you please inform me with the exact actions I should perform in my situation? Maybe it could help

Kind regards

Gino
