Random Shutdowns using MacBook Pro 15" (Late 20...

Ok so I have Macbook Pro 15" (Late 2013) with a serious issue that is making it unusable and I'm hoping someone out there can suggest a fix or at least put my mind at rest that there is nothing else I can do!

My Macbook was purchased directly from the online Apple Store and has been treated with love and care, never dropped, not even scratched. I have kept everything in pristine condition both physically and virtually in the hopes of re-selling it or trading it in down the line to get a bit more towards another one. However now it would have lost most of it's value as it is unusable.

I am currently using OSX Sierra

So one day I noticed a sound coming from the table. The fans had suddenly fired up on their own, as if it was it was open using intensive software or something, but the lid was shut with no programs running and was left like that as I normally have left it for the past few years. When I opened the lid, I saw the screen was black but then it restarted to OSX as if it had crashed.

I thought it may have just been a one time weird thing, but since then when using OSX the screen will randomly go black, but with a backlight still on, and the keyboard lights also remain powered. If I leave it for a minute it will actually restart back into OSX. At first it seemed this was happening using Chrome or Safari when I would type in a form field which seemed strange enough, but then it started happening more frequently, whatever I was doing. Often only working for a minute at a time.

I thought the best way forward would be to start eliminating problems, specifically to see if it was a software or hardware issue.

I had not made any changes to the system, no new apps, no downloads or anything other than a bit of emailing and web browsing. Even so I ran Malware / virus / adware scans, nothing detected. I reset PRAM /NVRAM and SMC which didn't make any difference and the Apple Diagnostics run didn't show any obvious problems.

As I have all my files backed up I thought I decided to wipe everything and do a completely clean install of Sierra and start fresh. After that I installed nothing other than Chrome and set up my Mail App, and the problem continued. I didn't even transfer any old files over.

I thought it may have been a hardware issue as I didn't think a fresh download of Sierra from Apple would have anything wrong with it. Maybe it was something as simple as a bit of dust, a power key stuck down, or a piece of hardware that is effected when I lean near to the track pad. However the issue was happening with the laptop just sitting there without being touched, ventilation seemed clean and the keys fine.

So I decided to resort to bootcamp to at least get some work done, and having using it for a few days hasn't had a single issue. The funny thing is, having returned to OSX a few days later it actually worked again for a day solidly, but now the issue has returned so I am back to bootcamp which is working fine.

Now if it was a physical issue wouldn't I have the same problem in bootcamp? Or would it just be that the physical issue might not be detected by Windows?

I haven't tried reverting back to El Capitan yet so might be worth a try, but Sierra was working great for ages!

Either way I prefer using OSX so I am hoping to resolve this so I don't have to turn my Macbook into a windows laptop.

Any ideas, suggestions or support would be appreciated beyond words!

Many thanks,

Peter
