Battery draining fast

Hi, I am not able to figure out any cause yet, but my battery is dying real fast for the past few days since I upgraded to Mac OS Sierra. I could use my mac almost for 5-6 hours in a single charge but now its hardly staying for 2-2.5 hrs. Anybody experiencing a similar problem? I have been checking the activity monitor to see if any specific app consuming lot, but I don't see anything different from what I had earlier. Thoughts?

Open Activity Monitor and go to the CPU tab. Make sure the unider View All Processes is check. What is using CPU?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem after upgrading to Sierra.

Already did a clean install in the hope of improving things, but unfortunately the behaviour is the same. MacOS Sierra just uses +50% more battery than El Cap.

Most probably I will revert back to 10.11 since I have this issue for more than a week and no fix on sight.

You all can try looking up Activity Monitor > CPU and see which is hogging most %,

if it is ionodecache, Its because you have installed a UBS sharing app, (for me it was USB NETWORK GATE) !

More Info : ionodecache: CPU >100% on Sierra

Same exact problem.  The only "App" that I have opened that is "Using Significant Energy" is Safari.

Nothing in Activity Monitor is using a significant CPU%

Bottom of my MacBook Air is also 'warmer' after I upgraded to Sierra.

I can't figure this out and I have to 'plug in' multiple times/day now where with El Capitan I could go 5 hrs.

(Battery dropped 8% just typing this message )

I'm having the same problem...

How can I fix it?

Kernel Task

I have exactly same problem. At least 4 friends of mine noticed similar issue. Unusual Safari CPU usage sucking air's energy. Apple please do something about!!! Waiting for action.

I had an App, mSecure, hogging CPU the other day - then last night, Mail drained the battery within 20 minutes.  Really odd.  Going to try a clean install.  The MacBook Pro Retina is also a lot hotter since Sierra.  --- I'm going to stop updating when these OS's are released.  Wait a few months and then do it.  Last three years has had problems.

I really wish people would read the entire question FIRST!

Many of us are having this same problem since upgrading to Sierra.

CPU activity is the same as before - but the battery is dying quicker than the Ghostbusters remake did!

Several times now my battery has shown (for example) 70%. I close the lid, drive home from my client's place, around 7 miles, open the laptop and it's dead!

And the over-heating issue is just ridiculous. Sometimes I can't even pick up the laptop it's so hot! Never had this problem before!

I'm really hoping to find a way to revert to El Capitan - when my battery could go an easy 6 ~ 8 hours and didn't overheat using simple programs like iMovie!

Apple, please STOP RELEASING UPDATES that are not ready!

This is the same problem I am experiencing. Since updating to Sierra my Macbook will be dead each time I open it after putting it to sleep unless it is plugged in -defeats the purpose of a laptop. If it hasn't yet died it is burning hot.

Exactly the same here.

Macbook Gold 12"  and a friend With macbook pro 17" 2015.

I love all apple products but i am also rational , i will stop buying them if they will continue like this. Also iOS10 biiig problem with battery ( the internet is full of complains) - but this is another subject.

Steve Jobs was a perfectionist he will never let this happend.

So, any FIxes ??

I want my Capitan Back ((

I'll wait for the 10.12.1 update, and if that does not fix this issue I'll revert to El Capitain

(The best OS X was Snow Leopard)
