Music on my Itunes is grayed out. Selections ar...

The music on my Ipod (160) doesn't display in bold black. All music selections for the Ipod are checked but clicking on the selection has no effect other than a momentary yellow flash on the selection. Summary in the left column doesn't display. The file folder for the Ipod displays momentarily, then disappears. The playlists on ITunes do not migrate to the Ipod. I downloaded and installed the .inf file for the usb, but it had no effect. Is there a solution?
