Is it safe to use Microsoft OneDrive to sync my...

I have an iMac and a Macbook air. I want to sync my Photos library between the computers, as well as my music and documents and such. I am concerned that syncing my Photos library will somehow mess it up and I will lose my photos etc. Is it safe to sync my Photos library to OneDrive and then continuously sync the library between my two computers? This would involve periodically adding photos to the library on either computer. I am referring to the file called "Photos Library", in case I was not clear!

Thanks!! Any help would be great

Let's be very clear: the answer to your question is no. The Library needs to be stored on an appropriately formatted disk and One Drive is not that. Syncing across that carries a very significant risk of damaging the Library and data loss.

Further, having two clients for the Library will cause you all sorts of permissions issues.

Simply, don't do it.

If you want to back up then use an external disk.

If you want all your Macs and iOS devices to share the same Photos Library, the easiest way to accomplish that is to use iCloud Photo Library: iCloud - Photos - Apple.

Is it safe to sync my Photos library to OneDrive ..

I don't know what that is.

I appreciate the reply, although in the end it does not answer my question. I know iCloud works but I am using OneDrive, and want to know whether it is OK for the Photos Library to be synched across devices using this. It is similar to Google Drive.

This is an Apple support site, so you should refer questions regarding those products to Microsoft and / or Google. If you want to share your Photos Library using the Photos app, use iCloud Photo Library. It's simple and guaranteed to work.

You could use OD to sync across devices but I would not rely on it as the sole repository for the photos. If something happens to your OD account you've lost all your assets and Apple will have nothing to do with any issues with 3rd party solutions.

My Photos Library will be stored on two Apple computers. Those are appropriate disks, correct? But you are saying that syncing through OneDrive will cause problems?

Are you going to export your pictures to OneDrive while leaving the Library on the computer? That should work.

I don't know what you mean by export the pictures. I was thinking of syncing (uploading) my "Photos Library" file to OneDrive and downloading it on my others macs. And I can add photos to the Library on either computer and the Photos Library will be updated and synced across computers.

Please see Terrence's post above. That is a bad idea for the reasons he posted.
