how to get programs not even listed in log in t...

When my iMac restarts, Excel & Word for mac both open on my desktop. They are not listed under admin account/log in programs. Any idea how to keep them from opening?

Quit them  prior to shutting down, that normally takes care of the problem. If the problem persists please follow the directions below.

I see several problems, first is your computer is starved for RAM. It has 4GB of RAM, it should have 8GB. 4GB was fine when you were running Leopard - Snow Leopard however new OS's need more RAM. Please upgrade the RAM and only use either Crucial.com or OWC (www.macsales.com) RAM. The reason is iMacs are very sensitive to using quality RAM and both vendor supply quality products at reasonable  prices.

 

Next is your computer has a large amount of Internet Plugins. Please read Safari 8 (Yosemite): If you need to remove a plug-in and remove the plugins you do not use or need.

 

If Word and Excel are the only culprits I would uninstall and then reinstall the apps.
