iTunes 12.7 freezes on start

Upgraded last night to iTunes 12.7 on my Mac. When I started up iTunes last night it froze while importing the library. After that iTunes has not started up once the application icon was double clicked. However on the dock the iTunes icon show the little black dot of an application that is running (after a couple of hours I force quit the application as it has still not opened up the iTunes window).
