Transfer photos from USB

Please help if able ;-) I am trying to download photos from my USB to my MacBook Air Version 10.12.6 macOS Sierra and I am not sure how to do this since there is no port (hole) for the USB or a connection for the camera adapter. Clearly I am not computer savvy but I am stuck, thank you to anyone who can "USB FOR DUMMIES" ...

In conclusion, trying to transfer photos from my USB to my MacBook Air the only "hole" on the computer is for the charger or head phones ;-(

Thanks for responding, I made a mistake I do not have a MacBook Air, I have a very light MacBook (Retina 12 inch Early 2016). I do apologize for giving the wrong information ( again not computer savvy ). I researched more on google and it looks like I need to purchase USB-C to USB adapter.
