App photos on macOS Sierra

Hello. I have a late 2011 macbook pro and recently upgraded it's software to macOS Sierra. Since then the app Photos doesn't go past the 5% loading and basically doesn't work. I'm worried i may lose all my photos. What can i do?

I've tried to close the app -- not allowed

Tried to restart computer -- not allowed

what do you mean "not allowed", you can't close the app or restart or something else?

force quit the app if you can not exit out

How to force an app to quit - Apple Support

reset the smc

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

repeat this step two or three times

reboot into safe mode

then reboot normally

you photos app should not affect the repository of your photos. Your photos are generally in your Macintosh HD (or whatever you named it)/Users/(your account)/Pictures

if you are concerned with loosing them I would suggest you back them up if you have not done so already.  Apple provides several methods of backup available to OS X.

I would also suggest you post an EtreCheck report for futher analysis of your system to see if there is some other issue going on. The link is www.etrecheck.com
