Cover Flow Problem

hi all-
i recently upgraded to Sierra and i'm noticing a bug with cover flow that's really gumming up my works.
i've tried searching here and on the web at large, but i don't know if i'm using the proper search terms or whatnot, but i'm not finding any help so far.

the issue is, when i assign cover flow as my view option for a desired folder it's not "remembering" the size of the preview pane.
every time i open that folder- the preview pane is the largest it can be, regardless of how i had set it before i closed the folder previously.
until i upgraded to sierra, i was trying to get every last minute mavericks. it didn't seem to matter what size or position i closed a folder with, or what size i may have left the cover flow preview pane at- mavericks always remembered. not getting that here with sierra.
is this a feature that was just somehow take out, or is there something i just don't know or something i'm not ding?
any help or insights are certainly greatly appreciated!
