Apple Watch series 2 Pausing / Resuming Swim Wo...

Can you "resume" a "water locked" swim / open swim workout by pressing the side button and digital crown?  I can't seem to make it work.

When pausing a "water locked" swim workout, you press the side button and then the digital crown, when I go to resume the workout and press the side button and the digital crown it does not work.

I have to "unlock" the swim workout (with noise to clear water), then swipe right on the workout screen, then press resume, then swipe up from the control panel to put it back in water lock.  This is WAY too many steps for an Apple Product.  If we can "pause" a swim workout with pressing both buttons, we should be able to "resume" the workout by doing the same.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this just not a feature at this time????

Hi

Apple does not currently indicate that swimming workouts can be resumed without first turning the Digital Crown:

If you would like to send feedback to Apple, you can do so here:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html

If you go on the iPhone to the Watch app, scroll down to workout. Tap on Workout. Then enable "Running Auto Pause". This will pause your Swim (even though it just says running) workout when you stop and resume it when you start swimming again, or moving for that matter.

Yes, you can pause and resume a Pool Swim workout using the side button and the digital crown, but I have found it doesn't always work. I found if I tapped the side button a couple of times and then both of them it would work. I think water may be causing a problem with the button action. I sent feedback to apple on this. If more people report it maybe they will fix it. I'm going to try the auto pause next time.

I have been struggling with my Apple Watch 2 in the swimming pool from Day 1. I thought I got a faulty unit but now I see it's Apple's fault. When walking or running I can pause/resume the workout with simultaneous pressing of the Digital Crown and the side button. But in the swimming pool, it does not work!!! It takes me 7-8 attempts to pause the workout but oftentimes I get frustrated so I simply scroll the Digital Crown and then pause. It's extremely annoying and shows lack of perfection from Apple. Sometimes the pausing works if I press the side button a split second earlier than the Digital Crown. Overall, it's a nasty, frustrating experience leading to me failing to properly record the swimming stats. I have left feedback on that several times.  I hope someone at Apple listens and pays attention.

Agree with you 100%  This happens frequently and frustrates me.  I can attempt to pause the workout 10 or more times and it just will not properly work, forcing me to unlock the watch and end the workout.  I can't believe that Apple thinks this is acceptable.  Just today, I swam next to a person who was experiencing the issue and said it was his biggest complaint.  Please, Apple, come up with a solution to this before I go back to using my Garmin .

The only reason you can even swim in it at all, and later still talk on the phone, is because it requires a speaker.  Locking it and  and then unlocking it when you get out of the water activates a vibration in the speaker that emits water.

If it didn't have this feature it would not have the capability of making sound or dictation. Does your Garman make sound or are you able to make a phone call or respond to a text.

I think you should take the advice of the earlier response to your question of being able to pause the workout.  He said go enable "running auto pause" in the workout settings in The Apple Watch settings in the iPhone.

The watch requires to lock for water damage reasons. When a  swim workout is started it activates Water lock automatically. This protects the speaker and the watch from water, as well as disables the screen as the water would disrupt it.

To properly unlock you are supposed to scroll the digital crown and it will unlock and emit water out of the speaker. You should feel the watch vibrate. If it did not have these features, it would not be able to be swam with,  and then later play sound and be able to use voice dictation.

Be sure to submit feedback to Apple via the link in my previous reply (you are not talking to Apple here - this is a user-based technical support community).

Have auto pause enabled.  Look, I fully understand why the crown is locked, but pausing the workout does not work smoothly.  I also realized that this is Apple's first attempt at a swimming app, so I expect it to improve.

As for Garmin enabling me to call or text, I do not intend to stop my swim workout for such activities regardless of which watch I am wearing.

You may find that a third-party swim tracking app better meets your needs.

For example:

You are wrong. I quote from your link above: "To unlock the screen, pause your workout by pressing the side button and Digital Crown at the same time, then turn the Digital Crown. To resume, press both buttons again."

Read carefully about pausing the workout. It should work. Unlocking the screen is a different matter.

This is a horrible buggy app. I tried it. It didn't count half the distance, got the timing and calories wrong. It's not even a beta, it's an alpha version.

An UPDATE on the Swim lock issue.  I have been using the AW2 for swimming since December and average about 3,000 yards per workout.  I have issues with the watch not wanting to pause when I receive some kind of notification, such as a text, during my workout.  The watch will not pause for me when I tap both buttons, so I have to unlock the screen and then swipe to enable the pause.  However, I have been able resume my swim with an unlocked screen and find that it works fine.
