new itunes and ios9

I downloaded the update for Itunes and after that my old Ipod does not sync any longer.

Software Ipod is IOS 9.3.5, no longer updating, no IOS 10 or 11 possible.

Do not force me to abandon the IPOD.... with IOS 9.3.5....

Please inform me about a solution,

Or - how to go back to the previous version of Itunes, whilst maintaining libraries and backups (obviously)
