Brightness Key F1/F2 not working on MBP

Screen brightness, F1 and F2 key not working

We have a MacBook Pro running MAC OS Lion. Somehow the F1/F2 key stopped working.

When pressed, I can see the brightness icon and the white bars appear on the display but nothing changes when press the F1/F2 key. However I can change the brightness from the system preference under the display settings manyally.

Try resetting the PRAM:

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.

Thanks. This worked for me.

Go to system preferences, keyboard, and uncheck mark the first box

This actually worked! Thanks!

After 3 days research, with no luck, I was able to restore the F1/F2 keyboard to work again and control the display brightnes in w10 / bootcamp after I did a SMC reset on my mid 2015 MBP 15"
