RAM USAGE

My 2017 iMAC Retina 4K, 21.5-inch is running Sierra v10.12.6.

Processor 3GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM 2400 MHz DDR4

When I turned it on after having the local Apple Store migrated my data from my 2007 iMAC (El Capitan) it shows that 10.9GB of RAM is in use.  Is this normal and how can I reduce the amount of RAM.

MacOS manages the RAM   Yes, you could easily be using 11 GB of RAM - that's ok. To use less RAM you have to reduce the number of open applications.  But if the computer is performing normally then I would not even think about it.

Thanks so much.  I was afraid I was going to run out of RAM again as I did with my old iMAC.

This solved my problem.

I'm 76 years old and not very IT literate, plus I'm extremely cautious/anxious about getting something new.

Thanks again,
