LG Ultrawide 2560x1080 (HDMI 1.4) and the MacBo...

I'm thinking of purchasing an LG Ultrawide (21:9 ratio) monitor (2560x1080) for use with a MacBook Pro 17" (2009).

The LG monitor (25UM58) has no DP / mDP, only HDMI 1.4.

The MacBook Pro (A1297) has no HDMI, and a single DisplayPort 1.1 port.

I've found an active DisplayPort 1.1 -> HDMI 1.4 adapter, but have found no Mac reviews of any kind of it (UltraAV brand).

Has anyone else has had any success using this adapter or a comparable one for the older MacBook Pros to achieve resolutions above 1920x1080?
