MacBook Pro - Technical Specifications - Apple

Keep up Apple!  I have a new router and it seems like I should be able to take advantage of the faster speed.  My wife's Android device can as well as my Microsoft game counsel....   Both of these devices are pennies on the dollar compared to my $4K Macbook Pro...  WTH :-(

No, 802.11ad is using a different frequency (60GHz) from ordinary consumer Wi-Fi.

MacBook Pro models support 802.11ac on 5GHz, and backward-compatible with 802.11n/g/b/a on 5GHz and 2.4GHz.

The 15-in model has three antennas for three streams, or three times the baseband speeds. With the appropriate Router (also with three or more antennas) it can reach just above Gigabit speeds.

The 13-in model has fewer antennas, so its speeds are more limited.

All of these models can use Gigabit Ethernet with appropriate adapters and cables.
