How I know an ipad is original?

I am going to buy an ipad4 from a unknown individual. How I know that the ipad is original or refurbished? He said it is original and used for 3yrs. He asked CD $200. Please advise me. Is it reliable? The question is :it is really original.  How i verify?  Please help me.

Any time you purchase a device from someone you don't know, and not via a site like eBay where you have a money back guarantee, you are taking a huge risk. It is probably authentic, but it may be stolen, it may be locked with an Activation Lock (which you cannot remove - only the person who put it on can), it may have been jailbroken.

Use a reliable source to purchase your device if you cannot afford a new or refurbished one directly from Apple.

You cannot distinguish an original from a refurbished iPad. Does it really matter after three years?

More important is that the seller has removed all his personal information from the device:

If he/she doesn't or cannot do that, you'll end up with an iPad you cannot use.
