Sierra Update failing due to permissions denied...

I have an update required on my Mac to Sierra 10.12.2 but when I try to run through update I get the error "The operation couldn't be completed. Permission denied(13). Any help much appreciated.

Could have saved us both sometime if you had informed us you were already on sierra, as I mentioned above your profile says El Capitan which you never corrected and you are posting in the El Capitan forum.

All you need to do is download and double-click to install this, Download macOS Sierra 10.12.2 Combo Update

Where are you seeing this update message?

As you are on El Capitan according to your profile, you need to download the full installer for macOS Sierra

which you can get via the App Store.

What age is your iMac only iMacs from 2009 and younger can install Sierra.

Remember to make a full back up of your mac before going ahead with the installation

and make sure any third party apps are compatible with Sierra, see https://roaringapps.com/apps?platform=osx plus any peripherals like scanners printers etc, check with the manufacturers.

Once downloaded and before starting the installation process, go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Install macOS Sierra.app, move it to another part of your mac, or put on an external disk, or USB stick.

Comes in handy if you need to reinstall Sierra, avoiding having to download it again, or use internet recovery. It can also be used to install on other macs that can handle Sierra.

I am seeing this message when using the app store update link. My Mac is only 2 years old

Good then you should be able to download Sierra, Go to the App Store it will open up on the Featured page.

like so.

On that page you will see on the left near the bottom a macOS Sierra graphic, or you can click the macOS Sierra text on the right hand side.

Are you logged in as an administrator on your mac?

I actually already have Sierra 10.12 installed, it is the update to 10.12.2 that I am trying to update to. Keeps giving me this permissions message but I do have admin rights.

As per the screenshot above I am unable to install any updates. Please advise how to resolve this.

Can I access this update without the app store? My computer is toast after upgrading from 10.12.2 to 10.12.6. The issue seems to be problems with the upgrade installing. I can't access the app store but could download the app to a USB. I will keep a copy handy for the future if I ever get this fixed. Thank you.

I also updated my Macbook Air to 10.12.6 and it stalled somewhere short before the finish. I loadet down (whiht an ohter Mac)  the combo update 10.12.6

Is it possible to run he combo update 10.12.6 from a stick over that? If the stick is bootable, will the macbook boot from the combo update that I can install it again. Or what can I do?

I was having the same problem for 3-4 months with no solutions.

sudo chown -R 200:200 /var/folders/zz

Writing this command to terminal fixed my problem. I found it from here.

Best Regards,
