How can I have more highlight options on Preview?

I used to run Snow Leopard, which is the original operating system of my machine, and last week I did a clean installation of El Capitan.

I use Preview to study (mostly pdf or .odt converted to pdf) and I often use highlight to colour-coding keywords or different concepts, therefore I need a good selection of colours, varied and easy to access and switch between.
Preview 5.0.3 did a pretty good job but Preview on El Capitan has fewer colours, ad more trickier-to-use figures.

 

Is there any way to install the previous Preview on El Capitan (I've got a backup on time machine if it helps), or in alternative is there some app which can highlight on preview, light and with little to none glitch?
