My MacBook Air cannot use the built in keyboard...

Somehow my MacBook Air got into a mode where it was looking for an external keyboard and mouse, and the built in ones were inoperative. I tried several shutdowns and restarts to no avail, finally I installed a wireless (Logitech K260) keyboard and mouse which work. However, I want to use my Mac’s keyboard and mouse. What do I have to do to get it back to normal?
