new logic board after 4 years

I bought a Mac desktop 4 years ago. The machine won't power up and the Philippine Authorised Service Provider has determined that the logic board has failed. Disappointing, but these things do happen. More disappointing and way beyond acceptability, is the repair cost. The repair cost is quoted as $US 580!!!!! And the new board and repair comes with a frankly dishonest 90 day warranty period.

I could (although I now won't) buy a new machine for $US 1,290

That puts the cost of repair for a 4 year old machine at a full 45% of the cost of a brand new machine.

To proceed with the repair at that cost and with that risk, would be stupidity.

At the end of the day, I've effectively paid $US 322 a year for 4 years for a product that now has no zero value.

I've sought assistance and constructive support from the Philippine Authorised Service Provider - but apart from "that's the cost", nothing has been forthcoming.
