why is itunes requesting daughter's email and password in my new phone and won't recognise mine?

Perhaps the number is registered to her Apple ID for Messages and FaceTime, so it wants you to sign into her account for those services. See Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support.
