Gaming on bootcamp with separate drive

after being back with windows for a couple of years I'm looking to re-upgrade to apple around xmas time. I was planning to get the low end 27" iMac (at its default specs)and buy extra memory from a 3rd party source to beef it up to around 40GB.

My main function for the mac will be audio editing and audio streaming, however I also was possibly planning to use this system for some gaming from time to time and while I know the Mac OS doesn't have the best suport for games I know it's easy to install bootcamp and run games off there. I also don't want to partition up my macs hard drive and clog it up/slow it down.

my main question is if I install windows through bootcamp on an external drive will it able to cope with rurring high end games at a reasonable rate.

Games that hat I might like to run include:

Plannet Coaster

GTA V

rFactor

Sims 3

Euro Truck Sim 2

Plus perhaps I would consider getting the Vive VR System is this would work well...

So do you reckon this mac will be beefy enough and Is there any external drives that are recommended for this set up?
