I want to share the whole iCloud photos library...

Hello together,

I have an payed iCloud-account only for the purpose to have my 200GB heavy photos lib in the cloud (assigned to my apple-id of course).

So today I went to the iMac of my wife and wanted to give her also the full access to this iCloud-photos-lib (she has of-cause her own apple-id). I found no option to do it right. My wife is also an member of Family settings in my iCloud/apple-id account.

What is the best way to provide her an full access to our photos lib in the iCloud? Sharing of single albums is not an option, it may work for "friends" and Muthers-in-law but not for own-family members; they must have full access to their photos.

Best regards

Anton

P.S.: I found the similar functionality in … iTunes. Everyone of us in the family has its own apple-id account, but we use iTunes with only one single account (my because there is iTunes Match activated); and it works very well.

Sorry, you can't share a full library with another Apple ID, you may want to consider sharing your password with her so she can access the library through iCloud.com on her computer.

Many thanks Winston for Your provided solution.

I tried it out just now, it is a workaround but not an real solution for my problem. It is easier to my wife to create an additional user account with my credentials/apple-Id on her iMac and just switch to this account to work with our iCloud-Photos-Lib.

@Dear Apple Photos-Team, would you take this "family-full-control" feature as a next user story?

I think I am not alone with this problem, there shall be more people especially who have families and owning more than one mac/iPhones.

Thanks and best regards,

Anton

This has worked in the past!

It was possible to add another iCloud account to any Mac or iPhone. Then you could activate to sync only the photos library. You could activate only one library on your device but that was exactly what we needed: All our pics in the same photos library.

At some point Apple removed this option. Most likely to prevent users from sharing their paid data plan. Now both users have to subscribe to a bigger iCloud data plan and it’s much more complicated to share your memories.

What a shame!
