why does the alarm keep going off on my ipad

I've found that when I open up my iPad, it will often start using the alarm set for the timer (under the clock app), after a minute or two.  The only way to stop the timer alarm is to swap to a different app (not necessarily the clock app).  This is a two month old iPad, running the latest iOS (10.3.3)
