How to move a photo from one album to another

I am not sure what the Apple programmers were thinking on this. I though the point of the tablet was to help free you from a computer but it only chains you to it. I find it very frustrating that you can not create or manage photo albums from your iPad this is insane to have to create folders on the computer then connect the iPad then use windows explorer to move them into the folder/album then go to iTunes and sync I do not care who you are that is just plain stupid. I have a phone with android and this is easily done on it so you would think that Apple would have thought this through better. I can see syncing your device when you first get it to back it up and then occasionally create backups but to have to do all of your file management with iTunes (which I really do not care for) makes no sense at all. I love the looks and concept of my iPad but am disappointed in the final product because of the lack of file management and problems with web sites that use flash.

Then perhaps you should stick with your phone and android.

The idea of the iPad was not simply to create a computer with a touch screen,. That had been done previously but didn't sell.

It was to extend your computing away from your desktop and make some things simpler, easier and portable. People need a paradigm shift when using an iPad/table as it's not simply a small desktop computer.

As people use iOS and the iPad and figure what they want to do, things will change on how to do them.

If you want a "regular" computer, get a laptop.

Then perhaps you should stick with your phone and android:  When it comes to taking photos I do stick to my phone it takes much sharper pictures and it is easier to manage them I can create my albums on my phone and only need windows explorer to move or copy to m computer.

If you want a "regular" computer, get a laptop: I do have a laptop but I prefer the portablity of my ipad. Apple braggs about simplicity and sells accessories to connect your camera directly to your ipad to then what copy into the camera roll album and then later have to connect to the pc and move them to the folder/album you want and then sync. It makes no sense you might as well connect your camera to the pc and move them to the folder/album you want and then sync.

I am not her to bash the ipad because I really love my ipad 2 I am simply saying that Apple got alot right on the ipad but they did a poor job on the management of photos. It should be as simple as creating a folder for your apps and dragging the apps you want organized into that folder. I see no logical reason why they couldn't have done this with photos. Yes I can create a folder on my computer and sync to create my albums on my ipad but it makes no sense why at least they did not put this functionality in itunes at the very least so you didn't have to use windows explorer and itunes. I was able to figure this out on my own but people that are not computer savvy it is not obvious what you have to do to create your ipad albums.

Yes you do as the iPad is not designed nor meant to be a just "regular" computer with a touch interface.

"No one will ever use a mouse" and "taking the floppy 3.5" drive out of the computer is insane" are a few examples of comments from people who needed a paradigm shift.

I agree completely. However, they could not make everything perfect for everyone from day 1.

Perhaps they just created a basic version of the Photos app and are leaving it open for 3rd parties to develop something? Apple has not stated why the Photos app is so basic or if it will get updated to include more features.

We get your point about paradigm shift, but i agree with the previous commenter, that it is not required to get a functional photo album manager. Nor is a regular computer. Less superior devices offer photo album management. We love our ipad but we are not blindly loving it. We want it to improve. That is why we are asking its developers to offer useful missing features. Apple could not get it done on day one. But after numerous versions and firmware upgrades, we have long moved on from day one, and yet still, this stays on top of their todo list.

We are not here to bash ipad. So the people who are blindly loving their ipads must also not bash those who are offering suggestions on how it can be improved for the better.

Yep, assigning Camera Roll pics to new albums works in IOS5!

I can now tag photos to different Albums on my iTouch4G. I say "tag" because if you select a photo to go into a new album then later want to delete it from the Camera Roll, you can't UNLESS you want it to also be deleted from the album you you assigned it to. So in my mind that means there really is only one copy of your photo stored and links added whenever you 'tag' a photo to a new album. I'm guessing the new album is probably a file of links pointing to the original photo in the Camera Roll thereby minimizing storage useage.

Oops! I just realized (after posting this) this is the iPad Community. Sorry for butting in. I suppose my remark applies to the iPad as well. If I could delete this post entirely I would but can't find a delete option anywhere.

I totally agree with you. We love apple, but we just have to accept the fact that they are sometimes not aware of these things. Hope they respond fast and make an update for this problem. I really think that it'll be much better if the photos of the albums are independent and not just copies from the camera roll.

It is easy to do. Om the album page touch the symbole of paper and pen on the bottom right hand corner, touch the picture you want to move a check mark will show on the picture. Click at the bottom on Add to then on add to Existing Album or to New Album. And it is done.

It was not easy to do (it was impossible) in February 2011 when the original poster asked the question back in February 2011.

And it requires iOS 5 or later.

An Apple/iPad-2 UK newby here - please be gentle!

The Album page 'buttons' are on the top of the screen on my iPad, but your directions are fine Ruth.  However, I am having similar difficulties to Joseph in trying to move photo's around. 

1) How do we re-position photo's within an Album?

2) What does Copy do within the iPad - it doesn't seem to do anything.

3) How can I delete a photo from an Album, without deleting it from all other locations?

4) How can I edit a photo and add the edited version as a new photo in either the same Album or another?

5) And is there any way of securely linking selected music to a slideshow, rather than having to select everytime it is viewed?

I feel these are all basic requirements for displaying photo's on the iPad, but can't see how to do them.

Hope someone out there can help.
