Sierra upgrade: Where are my pictures!!!

Well, I can find that many people have this issue but have yet to find an answer to the problem anywhere.  My patience is lost, I despise the fact that I've ****** money away on Apple crap but I need to find my pictures.  Stupidly, I fell for Apple's BS again and "upgraded" to Sierra.  Now all my photos and the organization I've spent a year on are no longer accessible by anything but the new "Photos".  I never had iPhoto to begin with, never used it.  Every single discussion thread I can find keeps talking about iPhoto and moving pictures to the new Photos.  I can see the files in Photos, but all my organization is gone; and I can't access my pictures from any other application EXCEPT Photos!  If I could find an Apple exec I'd smack their face until they cried!

Anybody have any REAL solution to getting my photos and the organization back to the way it was before this stupid Sierra OS upgrade?

Trevoz - Thank you very much for your reply.  I appreciate it very much.  I was able get some help from one of our IT support guys where I work.  What I learned is that Apple has made the decision to hide "Pictures" from the sidebar in the Finder window when a user (customer!) updates their OS.  I'll refrain from stating what I think of that decision and focus on the fact that you were the only person who cared enough to try to help.  Says a lot about a company that claims their products are worth the exorbitant premiums they charge.   Thank you again Trevoz.  Apple should hire you.

I believe you should be able to find your photos here ~/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary.

Presumably, you could also restore your photo library and its organisation from your backup so that you could continue to use whatever photo library program you used to use.

To help other customers out there that are experiencing unspeakable aggravation like I was due to the lack of support from Apple for the problems they've caused, the fix for the missing Pictures is to open Finder.  Go to Preferences, click Sidebar, then select the Pictures checkbox.  This will instantly bring your photos back and unhide them.  Wouldn't it be nice if Apple just left things like that as you had them, or just didn't hide stuff from us?

Thank you SO MUCH - I have just wasted DAYS of my life trying to find my Pictures files . . . your solution worked PERFECTLY!

Thank you!!!!!

Thank you Colorado to the nth degree!  My product pictures are a critical part of my tiny online business & I was pretty aggravated and frustrated when I couldn't access them.  Your instructions were so easy to follow & saved my little business!

Thank you for your short but invaluable explanation to get photos back from photo purgatory. I've spent the past 2 or 3 hours trying to fix the mess updating to Sierra created. 'Losing' my photos was the last straw!

Cheers for this. I was totally baffled after the upgrade. Apple are certainly not thinking correctly. You have done everyone a huge favour. Kia Kaha. Craig

Thank you, much appreciated. Simple really, once signposted. Other things can be put back in the sidebar too. It would be so much easier if our settings were saved, like the tabs in Safari are preserved, after an upgrade.

Thank you for helping--your directions were clear, concise and very helpful.  I wonder why Apple would choose to hide pictures from its own users? I'm so sick of apple I'm buying a new laptop (not from Apple)--any recommendations?

I have the same problem. I update my mac into Seirra all my picture in finder are gone!! How can I restored/find my picture? need help? This is very disappointed apples launches a new OS system but causing a lot of problems. We spent to much money buying ur products. This is not acceptable.

Have you looked in your User/Pictures folder?

Thank you Colorado for the help !! I'm now able to access family photos. It would be nice if Apple didn't hide our photos. Apple is supposed to make things user friendly. I think this was a cash grab on the part of Apple, so that people who aren't tech savy would have to phone support + pay to get instructions on how to find our family photos. Shame on you apple, don't we pay enough for the equipment already?! It's making me rethink about buying Apple in the future... Microsoft laptop would definitely be cheaper...
