print spool not working properly

I have a mac [sierra 10.12.6 OS] with a HP B110a printer connected. I'm running Parallels desktop [Windows 7] also so I can still use a few Windows only programs.

I've thoroughly tested the printer and scan and test pages all print on single sheets of paper [as they should]

The problem arises when i want to print anything. A single page will come out spread over 3 to 5 sheets of paper with often the lower half of the last line on the page cut off. There will be up to a dozen lines or so on sheet 1, about 6 lines on sheets 2 etc and up to 20 lines on the last sheet. If I want to print something like [say] 6 pages, then the printer will be told to spit out something like 20 or 30 pages.

There is clearly something amiss with the printer system inside this computer.

The problem arises whether I print from Windows 7 or Sierra OS

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem please?
