Logic EXS24: Realistic Legato on Flute, Clarinet

I'm trying to create a legato effect for phrases played with the Flutes, Clarinet Solo, or Clarinets sample patches included with Logic Pro X.  I have edited the Midi notes so that they overlap.

My understanding is that if one chooses the Legato mode in the EXS24 window, then for the Midi notes that overlap with the previous note, the attack portion will not be triggered, to create a smooth transition.  For these instruments, however, using the Legato mode seems to create the opposite effect.  The transitions become hard and abrupt.

If I choose the Poly mode instead of Legato, the notes actually come in more smoothly, probably because the attack of a woodwind instrument is not abrupt.  However, when in Poly mode I can hear the breath noise accompanying the attack when each note is played, which I would like to avoid.

It seems that in Legato mode, the new note is immediately played from the sustain portion, when it is already at full volume, which results in a very abrupt note transition.  Is there any way of doing a sort of "fade in" on the new note, so that it comes in more smoothly, but still starts from the sustain portion so that the breath noise of the attack is avoided?

(I have tried playing with the Env 2 Attack and Decay sliders while in Legato mode, but those don't seem to help.  I've also tried adding a bit of glide, but that just gives a very unnatural-sounding result.)

Thanks in advance!

go back to poly and adjust the attack in A D S R Envelope  Move the whole slider up until you get a soft attack and then adjust Release accordingly
