Virtual keyboard does not disappear

When I connect a bluetooth external keyboard the on screen virtual keyboard does not hide, and if I manually hide it the active element of the screen looses focus, so I cannot keep on typing. While the virtual keyboard is visible, the external one is working fine... but I cannot use half of the screen!

 

Just updated to iOS 11, but the problem was already present in iOS 10... I hoped this would have been fixed, but apparently it wasn't.
