Migration Assistent did not transfer passwords,...

Hello,

 

I transferred with the help of the migration assistent the data of an old MacBook Pro (13“, 2012) to a new MacBook Pro (13“, 2017).

 

Passwords and licence code were not transferred completely, eg Microsoft Office Pakete asked for lizence code,  Mail accounts, Skype etc. ask for passwords.

 

How can I transfer, passwords and licence codes, too?

Third-party License codes do not transfer, depending on how they are generated. Many use some combination of a code merged with a hardware ID, so when you move it to a new computer, the license is invalidated.

 

I'm not sure why your keychain didn't migrate. Did you migrate the old user account? Are you using the migrated account?

thx for your answer. You are right due to the software licence.

 

I migrated the complete user account and I used the migrated account.

 

Is it possible to copy the keychain manually?

Passwords are stored in keychains and are encrypted macOS Sierra: keychain

And passwords will never be migrated if you migrate data from one Mac to another as both Mac have different preferences .

If both computers are running the same OS, on the old computer, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Copy that to the new Mac. Make your user Library visible on the new Mac. From the old Library, copy ~Library/Keychains to the new Library. Open Keychain Access and test.
