iTunes 12.6.2 crashes when I click iPad button

Hi all. My iTunes app has been crashing hard for the past few days. It's an instant, 100-percent-of-the-time crash any time I click on the iPad icon to the right of the "Music" pulldown menu (see screenshot).

The iPad Air 2 is running iOS 10.3.3.

I have not upgraded to iOS 11 or iTunes 12.7 yet for various reasons, but the crashing in 12.6.2 is preventing me from managing the apps on the iPad using iTunes anyway. I'd appreciate any help troubleshooting the 12.6.2 crash, please. I'll include the iTunes crash report and the EtreCheck report via PasteBin. Thanks!

Quick update in case my solution helps someone else:

I tried clicking the iPad icon using a pristine user/iTunes install - same hard crash.

I had been seeing a message recently when syncing: "iTunes has found purchased items on the iPad "%1$S" that are not present in your iTunes Library." Usually, the iPad's correct name would show on such messages.

David Charlap responded: "Strings like "%1$S" are placeholders where message-formatting code is supposed to replace the sequence with the actual value of some in-memory object. The fact that you are seeing them means that there is some [problem] in the function that's creating the message. It could be use of the wrong kind of message-formatting function, omitting the parameter (in this case, the device name), or the parameter's value might be missing/corrupt.”

I decided to delete the existing iTunes 12.6.2 app and re-install it. I ensured double backups (Time Machine plus SuperDuper clone), then changed all the permissions for iTunes to read and write, dragged the iTunes app to the trash, re-installed, and crossed my fingers. When I opened iTunes, it did a quick "checking library" and launched normally with all files and playlists intact. I attached the iPad, clicked on the iPad icon in iTunes - back in business!
