My,Seagate,TB,external,hard,drive,is,not,showin...

My Seagate 2 TB external hard drive is not showing on my 2015 MacBook pro retina screen running the latest  Mac OS Sierra Version 10.12.6. The hard drive is lighting up and I can hear it running. I have checked the disc utility and USB and it is not showing there either. The problem occurred when the hard drive disconnected itself and an error message came up. This happened a couple of times and now it is not appearing at all. Can anyone help? I have very important documents that I need to retrieve. Could it be a loose connection on the usb lead?
