Bluetooth Not Available

In our office we have a handful MacBook Pros that frequently have "Bluetooth Not Available" issues, where we turn on our computer or wake it up and it says Bluetooth Not Available and no devices (apple keyboard or mouse) can connect. This requires a restart, or several restarts. Last week we unboxed a brand new MacBook Pro, turned it on, set it up and same thing... it immediately said Bluetooth Not Available and restart didn't help, unplugged power and monitors, restart and it worked. Today my own computer started doing it again, restarted 3 times and still nothing. Have tried NVRAM reset before and it didn't help.

I've seen several other people posts about this but no real answer as to how to fix this forever. Macs made within the past 2-3 years really seem to be slipping. Would be nice if these new $2,000+ laptops had reliable bluetooth...

Anyone found a long term solution?

I've seen that article before, but just now realized it says "/Library/Preferences/ not ~/Library/Preferences/". I'll try that, thanks.

Unfortunately no good. I actually had it working and doing this has made it not work. Trashed the plist file, shut down, waited. Turn back on and "bluetooth not available". Tried again, no luck. Restarted, no luck. Still doesn't work.

After 6 restarts finally started working. Once I unplugged my monitors and restarted it worked. I've noticed that before, where a restart doesn't fix it until I unplug external hardware.

New coworker started yesterday. He got a brand new macbook pro yesterday. Today he gets in, plugs into power and monitors, turns on computer and "bluetooth not available". He tried deleting plist, SMC reset, NVRAM reset and nothing. I told him to unplug his monitors and restart and that fixed it.

That seems to be the trend, none of the other suggestions work, but unplugging monitors seems to fix it. Why are these related?

Started having problems with another laptop recently. That makes 5 in an office of 20 have this problem. Very surprised no one else is commenting on here.

i had this same problem - macbook pro early 2011. Was using a logitech wireless mouse (with a usb dongle) for 6 years, no bluetooth devices in use. Bought an apple bluetooth keyboard Sep 2017 and "bluetooth not available" would happen every time overnight and randomly during the day. Tried all the suggestions (delete plist, reset nvram, reset bluetooth and devices using the shift -option - click on bluetooth icon, reset SMC) nothing lasted. Took it to the apple store, they removed the wifi\bluetooth chip and reseated it - that is all they could do as parts are no longer available. This did not fit the problem.

Final step was to unplug the usb dongle for the logitech wireless mouse and now the keyboard stays connected and the bluetooth does not go into "bluetooth not available" mode. I don't know why these two interfere, other than they both use 2.4 ghz range for transmission of their wireless signal.

I realize the probability of all your MacBooks having a usb wireless dongle is low, but I thought I would relate my experience anyway, in case it helps.
