How do I disable a dead hard drive in my Mac Pro?

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) that has four internal hard-drives installed.  Unfortunately, one of the three back-up internal hard-drives I believe is now dead.

Here is what happens to make me think the hard-drive is dead.

When I start the computer it says it that it won't initialize.  The Mac Pro then gives me a prompt to initialize the hard-drive, but when I try to do so, it doesn't initialize, and I end up cancelling the request to initialize.

Next, and when I go to shut down the Mac Pro, it won't shut down, which I am assuming is because the hard-drive never initialized?

Question:  Can I just disable this hard-drive without removing from the computer? If so, how do I go about doing this?  I don't really use the hard-drive, so disabling it wouldn't be an issue for me.

Thanks!

The only way to disable it is to remove it from the computer. Simple to do. Just pull out the sliding tray.

How do I know which one is the correct one to pull out?
