iOS 10 mail app move all/trash all
I just upgraded my iPad Air 2 to iOS 10. It appears as though the 'move all' and 'trash all' functionality has been removed from the mail app. When I view either of my inboxes (I have both iCloud and gmail accounts) and tap edit, only 'Mark All' is enabled. 'Move' and 'Archive' (gmail) / 'Trash' (iCloud) are both greyed out.
In iOS 9 (still installed on my iPhone), 'Move all' and 'Archive All' (gmail) / 'Trash All' (iCloud) are enabled when I tap Edit from either inbox.
Has Apple removed this functionality in iOS 10 or changed the way it is accomplished?
Per a chat session with Apple Support, "The feature to Move All or Trash All has gone away. The reason is so people are not making the mistake and trashing all emails. You will have to select each one and then move or trash."
If this functionality was helpful to you, please reply to this thread AND, more importantly, leave feedback at the following link requesting that this functionality be restored in iOS 10 --> https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I am seeing the same issue. I have an email account that sends security updates. i get hundreds of them and I dont't need to read all of them. In iOS 9 I was able to "trash all" of them. No I am on iOS 10 the feature is gone. Please bring this feature back

Thanks for the response. Still need to have the feature. I can't select all emails for the account I am using, would take forever. I wonder why people are shocked when their email is gone when the hit a button called trash all? Would be nice to have it as an option to use. I use "trash all" daily..... or I did until today
I too would like to see it back.
I too want the trash all option back, I used it every day.
I have an account that I just get status emails from work and want it to always be kept with no messages so I immediately see any emails there. Filter doesn't quite work because I might have seen it on another device, but hadn't dealt with it, so it wouldn't show in the new mail only filter.
I wouldn't have upgraded to iOS 10 if I had known that, and I even have an iPhone 7 on order.
I left feedback...
Hi All,
I was also very unhappy that trash all has been removed and I still am. I duly complain about it on the above reference link and can only encourage other iPhone users to do the same.
My problem was that I was trying to empty out my approx. 7000 emails. (did Apple really envision that it was smart to single mark 7000 emails and then hit the trash button?) However then I though about it and was wondering of some of the old technic to remove all emails from previous IOS versions was still working (pre Trash All IOS). So here it is.
1) Stand in the inbox you want to trash all in.
2) Select Edit
3) Tap the first email (now move can be selected)
4) Hold down the move button and unselect the email you just tapped
5) Release the move button
6) A new screen appear.
7) Select Trash in that screen
and now all the email in your inbox has been move to the trash folder. (my 7000 emails took approx. 8-10 min to move so be patient if you have many emails)
Problem solve. I knew I could count on Apple developers for creating a backdoor into this.
What I dont understand is why Apple did not allow a Trash All button to appear when you have selected all email. I could agreed that having a trash all button available when you first select Edit could be dangerous for the non savvy user but completed remove it is the wrong move and just take us all down to the least common denominator.
I Have great issues with removing a convenient way to trash all. My phone is used for immediate awareness of email when I am away from my desktop.
THe apple default mail client is horrible with the spam.
MY primary personal email is not (and can't be) IMAP (because Verizon is gen years behind the world and idiots when it comes to technical things).
bring back the functionality. Make the block of trash all in application settings. Else I'll have to fully transition to a 3rd party app, because as is this is useless to me.
Thanks. I still would prefer if I could trash everything. Even better, I would like a return to the feature in the earliest iOS's that allowed you to limit the number of emails you had in any account at any time, automatically trashing older emails. Having thousands of emails on my iPhone and iPad is a pain. I did file feedback too!
This is a great work around. I wish there was a way to trash all and then deselect the ones I want to keep. That way I could trash 90% of my junk emails and keep the ones I want to keep.
It would be like holding down shift and selecting all and then holding CTRL to deselect in the PC.
Wow, I can't believe that works. I would have never figured it out on my own, so thank you! The work around I was using before this was to use the Outlook app as my email browser. It still has the select all/delete all function readily available.
The solution I will be using is to find a mail app that works and isn't that dumbed down it's unusable.
What makes this even more ridiculous is the continued existence of a "Delete All" option in the Trash folder. Apple is worried about users inadvertently sending everything from a folder to Trash, but couldn't care less about the unrecoverable action of permanently deleting messages from Trash. There's some logic for you.
Please bring back "Move All" and "Trash All".
I posted feedback, and urge all affected users to do the same.
I miss that function too!
Could be as an option in mail settings...
Thats bad news. Why would ply guardian over ppl that don't pay attention to there emails. Not making sense as someone could just go in the trash folder and get the emails. But this also has to do withe setting up mail, what appears too much for some ppl.
I used the "trash all" for an seperate email account for my home security system notifications..
At times i get 80+ emails from motion dedection, now i have to delete those 1 by 1.!
THanks apple and thanks those who are to lazy to get to know your device.
