Locate missing songs

I got a new computer and I logged into my iTunes account but many of the songs in my library are now missing... again! I don't use iCloud, my library is stored locally and backed up to an external device.  This is not the first time this has happened and it makes me very upset that I have to go through and locate the files individually. I've had this account for quite some time so it frustrates me when this continues to happen. There used to be an option to "Locate missing files" from the menus, but not for many years.  Also, when I successfully locate a missing file, the app asks if I want to use the same location to try to locate other missing files, but it never finds any (even though they are all in one gigantic folder!). How can I get my music back into the library again without having to manually locate them one by one, and without deleting my whole library and re-adding them all?
