I have Generation 1 Apple Watch 42" and am trying to install the newest software watchOS 4 and am experiencing a problem. Can anyone tell me if the new software is available at all for older Gen 1 watches?

Yes - all Apple Watch models can be updated to watchOS 4 if the paired iPhone is an iPhone 5s or newer model that has first been updated to iOS 11.

 

Follow the instructions here, starting by making a backup of your iPhone:

 


If you instead have an iPhone 5 or 5c, then your devices cannot be updated beyond iOS 10.x and watchOS 3.x.
