Hey, I have just received a strange/scam email ...

Hey, I have just received a strange/scam email about a purchase, i haven't made, are you abele to verify if this is a scam?

This is the email:

Dear User,

Your Apple ID, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx, was just used to download Final Cut Pro (Order ID *************, Order Total $299.99) from the iTunes Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID. You may also be receiving this email if you reset your password since your last purchase.

If you initiated this download, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not initiate the download yourself.

If you did not initiate this download, we recommend that you go to iforgot.apple.com to change your password, then see Apple ID: Security and your Apple ID for further assistance.

Regards,

Apple

You can do that yourself. Check out this information about fraudulent emails and other messages. Identify and report phishing emails and other suspicious messages - Apple Support

You would have to provide more information in order for us fellow users to tell you what is likely. But if you think it is a scam, then it probably is. Here is an Apple support article that should help: Identifying fraudulent "phishing" email - Apple Support

Best of luck,

GB

Well, you had not provided that information when I first responded. Remember these few things. First, Apple will not identify you as "User", they use your name, because they know it. Next, the two links in the message do not identify what they purport to, then are bit links. They use these types of emails to get your information, and they use something very expensive to really get your attention. It is a scam, forward the email as an attachment to Apple to reportphishing@apple.com. and then delete it. Do not click on any links. The link I provided will give you more info on how to identify a fraudulent message.

OK, so if you hover over the two links in that message with your mouse (don't click on them), you will see the URL address at the bottom of the screen, and it is clearly not a legit address (and looks pretty nefarious). If you are on an iOS device that has 3D touch, tap and hold the URL lightly and you will see a pop-up window that shows the actual address at the very top above the Open, Open in New Tab, etc. options.

Best of luck,

GB

Correct this is a scam. If you click on the I forgot.apple.com instead of sending you to the real site, it sends you to bit.ly short link then redirected to scam webpage. So this isn’t apple.
