New Ipod Nano keeps asking for updated Itunes

My old Ipod broke. I just purchased a new one and I keep getting an error message stating the I need to update to the newest version of Itunes - which I already have.

I am using an older MAC that runs version OSX 10.6.8

ITunes it had me update to is 11.4

I have read some posts that say these are not compatible and others (on the Apple website) that say they are compatible.

Did I just waste $150 on a new Ipod or is there a fix for this?

Click here and download El Capitan from the Mac App Store. If you get told that it's incompatible with your computer or you're going to stop upgrading at Lion, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo CPU(Xeon Macs are compatible, but Core Duo ones aren't) and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, order a download code.

Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
