itunes software license agreement every time I ...

everytime i open itunes (including on start up) I am prompted to agree itunes license agreement. Also (maybe related) every time I start up I need to log back in to itunes store

please help!

I have this problem as well - ever since iTunes updated to 10.0.3.42.  It also isn't remembering any of my preferences, so I have to reset everything every day.  It is really annoying.

Any way of getting rid of this would be much appreciated.

I am having the same issue!!!   It just started this week.

Is there some glitch that is making this happen?  10.7.0.21

Hi everyone who is having this problem.

I have spent many hours with Apple over this problem and been escalated up several levels (am waiting a reply from them Thursday  20th if they reply).

The issue on my machine (running Windows 7 professional 64 bit) appears to be McAfee Real-time scanning.

When I switch real-time scanning off then iTunes opens and all preferences there.  When I open with real-time scanning on then I get the agreement screen and loss of all preferences (note: if I have previously gone in with Real-time scanning off then iTunes goes in OK the first time, but then if you open again you get the agreement screen).

Like Apple I have been in touch with McAfee and again spent about 3 hours with them, and again been moved up the hierarchy of support.  I now seem to be quite high up and they were supposed to ring back yesterday, but instead I got a phone call saying that they need another 2-3 days and will contact me on Saturday afternoon.  Lets see if that happens.

So ......

If you are running McAfee and getting this problem - turn off Real-time scanning while you sync.  Not a solution long term but you never know McAfee and Apple might just get this problem sorted out.

Val

Thank you so much for your reply, Val!

When this first started happening to me my entire library had disappeard 2x.  I was able to recover it easily enough, but since then I have had the issue with the agreement/preferences.

I found in another thread here that others were having issues with AVAST software and I asked if anyone else used McAffee and was having issues, but did not get a reply.   I guess this might explain it!

Thanks again I will try your solution!

Val, thank you for this information and please keep us posted on your progress.

I also had this problem on my new Dell Windows 8 machine.  It came with McAfee already installed.  When I saw your post, I immediately uninstalled McAfee and installed Kaspersky instead.  I have used Kaspersky before and figured "the devil you know ..".  So far (1day) the problem has not come back.

Hi WhiteFourS

Glad I was some help.  I'm beginning to think that I need to change from McAfee.

So far it has gone up to their Research group and I've already had 1 one hour session with them on my PC and they are due to ring again 12 mins ago!!   Have so far spent about 3 hours with McAfee and Apple trying to get this sorted - they seem to think it's my machine, but if others are having the same problem I tend to doubt that.

Let's hope they sort it as I have 4 machines running McAfee and to change them all would be a real pain.

Hi Val,

After searching high and low, to try and solve this itunes license agreement popping up all the time, and forcing me to amalgamate calanders and contacts to sync them, which took an hour, I found your solution.

Disabled McAfee real time scan, and NO MORE PROBLEM!!

Thank you so much, you cannot imagine how much time and aggravation this has saved me.

Best regards

Jeff

Hi Val,

Maybe you have another solution for me.

On a windows phone, a SPB Bachup software, allowed you to back up your calendar and contacts onto your cell phone. This way, if you were on the road, and made 100 changes, you could simply back up to your cell. If a problem arose before you got to your computer, you simply restored from you cell to your cell.

I know about backing up to the cloud, which I find unsatisfactory, and I do backup via itunes.

BUT, I want to back up my calander and contacts to me cell.

Any suggestions??

Jeff

Hi Jeff

Glad I was able to help.  McAfee still have not come back to me with a solution so it is still with their 'Research' group.

Sorry I can't help you with your other problem.  I don't have a smart phone so have no experience at all with syncing with one.

If I ever get a good response from McAfee then I'll post and let everyone know.

Regards

Val

Hi Val,

I am having the same problem with Win 7 64 bit. Disabling real time scanning does solve the problem. If you find a fix that allows real time scanning to be turned back on, please post it. Thanks

I have had this issue for sometime as well and it is quite annoying. However, in reading through this thread and trying a thing or two, I *may* have a solution (other than simply turning Real-Time Scanning off altogether). It seems to work on my end and there's only one way to find out if it will work for others as well.

1. Open McAfee and on the Home page, click Virus and Spyware Protection.

2. Select "Real-Time Scanning."

3. Select/Expand the Settings menu. (Picture doesn't show the second option, " Startup Settings".)3.jpg

4. Select "Programs and doscuments only" and then "Apply."

5. Open iTunes - note how the license agreement doesn't open up. Note: I opened iTunes half a dozen times.

6. Return to McAfee and re-select "All Files (Recommended)" and "Apply."

7. Close all programs and reboot PC.

8. Open iTunes without the license agreement popping up.

Hi Leiajade

Thanks for this, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me.  I followed your instructions and it's true I didn't get the Agreement screen the first time I opened iTunes, but I did when I plugged in my iPod, and also when I went into iTunes again.

McAfee still haven't come back to me with a solution and it's been with their research team for a couple of weeks.  McAfee have had the problem now for nearly a month so am getting to the stage when I'm going to have to bin McAfee and go with another security program.

Will keep everyone informed of progress.

Would be nice to know if anyone else has solved the problem with your 'work around'.

Apple say that the McAfee program is wiping the itunespref.xml file when itunes closes which is why the problem is happening.

Thanks again for the suggestion, such a pity it didn't work for me, perhaps its my operating system - I'm on Windows 7 professional 64 bit.

Just to update everyone on my saga with McAfee.

On Monday 22 July 2013 McAfee phoned me (after missing 2 previous appointments to phone) and said that they had been talking with iTunes - or iTunes had been talking with them (not sure I believe them either way) and that it was the updated version of iTunes (12.0.4) which has caused the problem with McAfee Real-time scanning!

They said that they (McAfee) were working with iTunes to resolve the problem - believe that if you will.

I'm afraid that, after over a month of discussions and probably about 7 or 8 hours of help, I've given up on McAfee.  I asked for, and got, a refund of the 4 licences I had bought earlier this year and have now downloaded Bitdefender.   Guess what - NO PROBLEMS.

Good luck to any of you who still have McAfee.

Val

Well, I would have to say I disagree with them that it is the updated version of Itunes (12.0.4) that is causing the problem since I am running an old version (10.7.0.21).  I think that blows that theory for them!
