Runkeeper with AW3

Just got my Apple Watch 3. Went out for a first run without the phone. During the run, the watch would not display the mileage or pace, only the time elapsed. When I returned home, the Runkeeper app on my phone showed the map of the route that I ran, and the time, but no distance or pace registered. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi

I suggest that you consult the developer's support resources for Runkeeper and/or contact the developer for assistance with using their app:

More information:

Runkeeper—GPS Running Tracker on the App Store

From what I can tell, the Runkeeper app works fine (relatively) with the Series 2, so I wondered if there was a setup step I was missing somewhere either in the phone/watch or the Runkeeper app (or both).

The developer's resources and/or the developer should be able to assist you with that.

Right...so, I've previously contacted the developer (still waiting on a reply), but the reason I posted here was in the hopes that watch users who also happen to use the Runkeeper app might able to advise. In past experience, Apple users tend to have better, more reliable answers in addition to generally answering more quickly.

I have almost 3,000 miles logged in Runkeeper. If I don't have to use a different app for tracking, that'd be swell. Thanks.

Have you, for example, checked your permissions settings, as directed by the developer's support resources?

Yep.

For future reference, when asking questions here, it is best to explain at the outset all of the steps that you have already tried.

This helps to ensure that you receive constructive replies and is also appreciated by those who may invest their time and effort in trying to help you.

Initially directing me to the developer's website, twice, isn't actually helpful. If the developer had provided me an answer already, I wouldn't be here. I know that's snarky, but all I wanted was to find someone who uses both the watch and the specific app together that may have had the same scenario and thereby would be able to offer a solution. I also realize that Apple Watch 3 is quite new, but this app was running on Apple Watch 2 as well. Do you use this app? If you don't, then there is far more explaining to do with regards to its' function. If you don't use the app, there's really not much reason for you to respond to my post. I do, however, appreciate your time invested to help regardless of your app usage. I will take note to provide more information in original posts in the future.

That being said...

Both devices are current on software and updates.

Installation was performed per the instructions on the developer's website.

All permissions and location services are given/on per the developer's website.

Use of the app was performed per the directions on the developer's website.

Both devices were fully charged prior to use.

The app was not live/open on the phone at home when I left.

During the run, the app kept accurate time on the watch, stop and start functions worked.

During the run, the mileage and pace would not display on the watch (only ----- was shown in both locations on the face).

After the run, the app on the phone was opened. The app on the phone displayed the elapsed time (same as on the watch) and the map of the route taken (GPS is working). The app on the phone showed no distance, pace or elevation.

Find my Friends was accurate for other users who track me.

I was able to Bluetooth headphones during the run.

I was able to send a text during the run (cellular is working).

Runkeeper was not able to display my activity for other Runkeeper friends to track me (would not display online for users at home).

Things I have not tried:

Power one or both devices off and back on.

Uninstall and reinstall the app on the phone.

Run with both devices.

I plan to run tomorrow morning with both the watch and the phone to see how that goes. It was suggested on an Apple Watch 2 forum/QA from 2 years ago to run with both in order to calibrate, but I don't believe I have found that same advice on the developer's website. Perhaps in my hours of search I just haven't found it if it's there. We shall see.

Thanks for your time spent.
