how do I add content on ext drive to new install

I have music, movies etc on an external drive. My previous iTunes was on a another laptop which crashed. I wish to merge the content on my external drive to a new install on itunes

Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and either choose an existing library on that drive or create a new one there; in the second case, manually drag the content to the open iTunes application window or the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
