Sierra upgrade lowered audio volume

I've noticed that after I upgraded my MacBook Pro from El Capitan to Sierra the audio output on my internal speakers is much lower. I have to raise the volume to the max to get it loud, when before, I only had to raise it 3/4 of the way up.

Does anyone else have this issue? How do I fix it.

Thanks

Please try this, if you have not already.

Go step by step and test.

    1. Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21875?locale=en_US

    2. Repair Disk.   https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22243?locale=en_US

    3. Reset NVRAM/PRAM.  https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

    4. Reset SMC. Choose the method for  “On Mac notebooks with non-removable battery”.

An NVRAM Reset is justified for that problem. Please read macOS Sierra: Reset your computer’s NVRAM or PRAM.

Thanks to both John and Dominic23 for your posts.

I tried all your ideas and nothing changed. (Except that safe mode did not function well AT ALL)

After trying and failing to fix this audio problem I noticed that the volume control in iTunes and the volume control in Finder (the slide bars) are independent. In order to move the finder bar sound slide to full volume I also had to slide the iTunes volume slide bar to full volume. If the iTunes volume was set low to mid range then nothing I did with the keyboard or the finder volume slide bar made a difference. Neither bar affected the other. But if you want total volume out of your speakers or headphones you have to have full volume on both the iTunes volume bar and the system volume bar.

Same issue, my iPhone speakers are now louder than my Macbook Pro Touch Bar. This is absolutely awful and wondering what the **** Apple?
