Macbook Pro uneven lighting

High guys,


I'm having this light bleed on with dark backgrounds. I was wondering if this is normal and if there is really a chance of solving this if I take it back for replacement. Thanks in advance.

If you've some really bright light in front, you can get some bleedthru due to the translucent Apple logo on the lid, but that would appear on the center of the screen. Else if the screen illumination is uneven, there is something wrong.

 

Try downloading PiXel Check and run it thru all the colors in a place with no bright lights around you. If you don't get even lighting all over the screen in all colors, take it in for service. You have a one-year base warranty, plus two more years if you purchased AppleCare.

This was in a completely dark room so this is not the problem. I just don't want to return it and lose the laptop for a couple of days if it isn't going to be fixed.

Way back, before LED-driven LCD displays became the norm, I had an MBP that required 4 screen replacements till the problem was finally solved. But try and check to make sure it is not a software problem first.

How could this be a software problem? And if it were a software problem how could I identify and or fix it?

Download the utility from the link I gave you in my first reply. Then restart the Mac holding the shift key down before the startup chime. It is called a Safe Mode start and will only load Apple system components. When it finally starts up (takes awhile longer than usual), run Pixel Check thru all the colors.

 

If you have uneven lighting on any or all, hardware issue and will require service.

 

Even lighting, means some program you are using is causing the effect. Will have to experiment to see which one.

 

Restart the Mac again to exit Safe Mode.

It's there. It's just a hardware thing, but as I said, that's not the point. I know a lot of devices have light bleed issues (iPhone/iPad) but I wanted to know of this issue is also widespread for MacBook Pro's. I'm not going to take my iPad back because I know the next one will be the same or worse. If this is rare for MacBooks then I'm going to get it repaired so that the next one will probably better.

Sorry to hear that. Of all the Macs I've had (7 in total, all portables) only one had the lighting issue and that's cause Apple had issues with the screen panel maker. Got it fixed under warranty, never failed again. My current one has no defects at all thus far. Hope the repair goes about quickly and permanently. Don't forget to back everything up before taking it in. If paranoid, clone out, reinstall to a blank from-factory state, take in, then clone back in when returned. At least make the NSA work their butts off a bit more in purloining your private stuff.

I have the same problem. Mine is when I had the LCD Retina "Staingate" panel replaced then it shows up! An now Im leaving for work (3 months away) SMH
