how to delete itunes encrypted back

Hi, community.

I feel kind of dumb but I can't figure out how to go about the following:

Problem is I have encrypted iPhone backups with iTunes (on my PC),but don't have the passcode. It continues to back-up, fine.  The phone is working fine, but I can't restore from the back-up.  I'm getting new iPhone and want to be able to set it up by restoring the from the back-up.

So I'd like to be able again access to do (and restore when the time comes) iTunes backups on my PC plus iCloud backups, so I am on the safe side.

The solutions I read to reset the iTunes encrypted backup password kind of tells me I have to erase my iPhone and restore it from iCloud. This I a risk I don't want to incur on. Also I'd need to upgrade my ICloud account to cover all of the data.

Of course I also have my Apple id user and pw working ok (I thought it was the same for iTunes but looks like it is not). So if I can identify myself to apple as the legit owner, isn't it a way to reset my iTunes pw for new future backups?
