poor graphics on screen since macOS Sierra update

Hello and thanks in advance for any help I receive!

I'm using a separate HP monitor with my mac mini. Never had any issues with the display and quality of my screen.....until I updated to macOS Sierra....I think it was version 10.12.4.

Since this update, text displays a little pixelated and things just generally look much lower in quality. The worst thing is that black or dark colours (especially when editing photos) appear to have some kind of "posterised" filter added to them.

I've calibrated my monitor correctly etc, this issue has only happened since updating to Sierra. Have also updated to the latest Sierra (10.12.6) which has done nothing to solve this.

I'm attaching an example of how black/dark colours display.....but maybe it won't look terrible for you if your screen/mac are behaving!

Incredibly frustrating as a graphic designer/photographer. Any help very much appreciated!
