Is there a way to organize my purchased playlis...

I'm trying to organize them this way so that I can quickly play my most recently downloaded songs instead of having to remember them all and search for them individually.

In theory, your iTunes Library should already have a "Recently Added" Smart Playlist, which should automatically add newly added songs to it and remove older ones. However, the library I use for my iPod Touch deleted all my Playlists (who knows why?), so if your has done the same, you may need to re-create it.

Check first, to see if it is there. Look on the left side of your iTunes, under Playlists. They are listed alphabetically, but in groups in the following order:

  • Playlist Folders, (two or more Playlists within a folder) - with a "folder" icon. If this list is in expanded mode, then the sub-lists will show up, indented, under the folder.
  • Smart Playlists, some pre-made for you, and any that you have created. Usually they are automatictally updated - with a "cog-wheel" icon
  • User Playlists, created by you - - with "a musical note on sheet-music paper" icon.

Recently Added should be under the Smart Playlists section. It should be set up to automatically add any new music and keep it there for two weeks after adding. The songs should be in date added order and once on your iPod, I believe they should show up with the oldest "new" ones at the top and the very newest "new" ones at the bottom of the list. That's how it works on my iPod Classic anyway.

If the Playlist isn't there, you will need to re-create it. If two weeks isn't long enough for you, you can modify the list to suit you. If you need to create new or modify, post back (in this discussion thread) and I'll give you step-by-step instructions. (If you already know how to manage Smart Playtlists, I guess you won't need instructions, but they can appear complicated until you understand how they work.)

Thanks for your response. The default purchased playlist used to keep them in order of date purchased and it had no time limit then after one of the updates months ago, they were arranged by artist name. Please provide the instructions to create a smart playlist and to modify the time frame. Thanks in advance.

I figured out how to add the smart playlist. Thanks again.

Glad to help.

Prehaps you can help me. I lost my ipod nano and had to buy an ipod touch. When I plugged it in to my computer to download my library it did not put them in the order that I purchased them in.  It is very important to me that the songs be in the order of purchase.  I am a non technology person and don't know how to do things that aren't simple
